You will be happy to hear that Infinity Ward has announced the development of next game of the Call of Duty series, Call of Duty 6. Overall 9th installment in the series, Call of duty 6 is set to be released sometime in 2009. Not more details have been revealed for the game yet. But you will surely be happy after hearing the return of Infinity Ward, the original developers, in the series.
Activision, the publisher for Call of Duty 6, CEO Griffith confirmed this in almost half a day long presentation on the title given yesterday. The current title "Call of Duty: World at War" is under development by Treyarch's while the development of next title will soon be started by Infinity Ward to set its timely release in 2009. However, some are saying that Call of Duty 6 will not be ready until Q2 2010.
Well Call of Duty: World at War is a Call of Duty 5 of the series, so there will not be any seperate work on the Call of Duty 5 title. World at War is yet to be released on PC and Activision is very much concerned about its monetization options. Actually they are happy the way the game will be monetized online. Similar expectations would be made Call of Duty 6 too.
Not sure whether to be available in single player mode only or there will be multiplayer version as is in previous titles of the series. Surely Infinity Ward would be releasing lot of free content to be downloaded for Call of Duty 6 in coming times. They might announce a playable Call of Duty 6 demo for download before the full version is released but nothing can be said as of now.
